The town has been internationally renowned as a leader in the world’s shell cameo production since the eighteenth century.  Master carver Gennaro Borriello founded his company in 1954.  Since then it has grown into one of the leading cameo producers in Torre del Greco; his group of artisans is responsible for the artistic cameos we have for sale in our store.  Still today, he alone chooses the subject of each and every cameo produced by his artists, and personally checks the detailed work when they are complete. These craftsmen work from the comfort of their homes, no factory hours or less than idyllic factory setting to offset the beauty of each work.  Several internationally famous carvers work for the firm:  Genaro Garofalo, Francesco Esposito, and Salvatore Balzano.
